6-Banner Sunday: Indiana adds Luke Goode from transfer portal
Welcome to another edition of 6-Banner Sunday, a joint production between The Assembly Call and Inside the Hall, and presented by our friends at Trueblood Real Estate, where we highlight the five most essential IU basketball stories of the past week, plus take a look at how the other IU sports programs are doing.
Some of the final roster pieces committed for both the men’s and women’s teams this week. Each squad got the sharpshooter they desperately needed while the women also added a post player.
Besides this, former Hoosiers in the NBA playoffs, Inside The Hall’s player wrap-ups and weekly shows. We will, as usual, conclude with a look at other Indiana sports led by a massive week from the IU golfers.

Banner #1 – Luke Goode commits to Indiana
The roster for next season is now nearly complete, with 11 of the 13 scholarships accounted for. The biggest news by far was the commitment from Illinois sharpshooter and Indiana native Luke Goode after visiting campus earlier this week. While Goode is likely to play off the bench and averaged only 5.7 points per game in 2023-2024, he provides the much-needed threat from downtown IU has lacked, as he is a nearly 40 percent 3-point shooter.
Also, while this news was already known, IU made the signings of Kanaan Carlyle and Myles Rice official this week and Inside the Hall had a column about the additions. In terms of outgoing Hoosiers, Kaleb Banks, CJ Gunn, and Peyton Sparks have all found new homes after entering the portal. Banks heads to Tulane, Gunn to DePaul, and Sparks back to Ball State.
Finally, former Florida Gulf Coast guard Zach Anderson visited last weekend. However, he is unlikely to choose the Hoosiers after the addition of Goode.
Banner #2 – Karoline Striplin and Shay Ciezki commit to Indiana
With eligibility expiring for IU stars Mackenzie Holmes and Sara Scalia, reinforcements were needed for their minutes in 2024-2025. While Holmes has an obvious replacement in her backup, Lily Meister, the team still needed another post player. This was achieved this week with the addition of Karoline Striplin from Tennessee. Striplin started part-time as a Lady Vol and averaged just over seven points a game.
However, the more significant pickup is Shay Ciezki. Before she announced for the Hoosiers this week, Indiana had no obvious replacement for Scalia at shooting guard in the starting lineup. With the addition of Ciezki, the team now has another knockdown shooter who will contribute immediately after averaging double figures for two seasons at Penn State. She is also nearly 40 percent from downtown, which will once again give the cream and crimson four elite shooters with the return of Yarden Garzon, Chloe Moore-McNeil, and Sydney Parrish to surround Meister.
With the roster nearly set, the athletic department put season tickets on sale for next season. They cost $112 per person for the year in reserved seating and $96 for general admission.
Banner #3 – Hoosiers in the NBA playoffs
The NBA year is now in the thick of the playoffs. Four former Hoosiers remain in the postseason in 2024 including OG Anunoby, Thomas Bryant, Eric Gordon, and Cody Zeller.
Anunoby’s New York Knicks secured the two seed in the eastern conference and lead the Philadelphia 76ers 2-1 in their series with Anunoby scoring in double figures all three games. Meanwhile, the other three players are decisive underdogs as Bryant’s Miami Heat and the New Orleans Pelican’s Zeller were the final teams to make the field in their conferences. They are taking on the top-seeded Boston Celtics and Oklahoma City Thunder, respectively. The Heat trail their series 2-1, with Bryant making his first appearance in game 3 with 2 points in six minutes. Meanwhile, Zeller’s Pelicans are down 3-0 and he has yet to make an appearance in the series.
Finally, Gordon’s sixth-seeded Suns are taking on the third-seeded Minnesota Timberwolves and trail 3-0 as well. However, Gordon is not the reason for the struggles, as he has scored in double figures in the last two games of the series.
Also, while they have no IU players currently, playoff basketball has returned to Indiana as the Pacers and Tyrese Haliburton lead the Bucks 2-1 in their series. Haliburton hit the game-winning floater in the final seconds of overtime in a thrilling game three.
Banner #4 – Inside The Hall’s That’s A Wrap series
With the 2023-2024 season now over, Inside The Hall continued a series looking at all of the IU players and their contributions from last season. This week featured Gunn, Trey Galloway, Anthony Leal, Sparks, and Anthony Walker.
Banner #5 – Podcast on the Brink and Back Home Network shows
Podcast on the Brink and The Back Home Network had several new shows in the last few days. POTB had The Sporting News’ Mike DeCourcy on to recap IU’s offseason to this point.
Meanwhile, Assembly Call had a special edition show to discuss the addition of Carlyle. Finally, the Back Home Network has a podcast called Right Up Meridian that discusses the Pacers with Tony Adragna and Scott Caulfield. They were on-air twice this week as they chatted about the ongoing series with the Bucks.
Banner #6 – Hoosier Roundup
• Women’s golf won their first Big Ten Championship since 1998 and will head to the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2019.
• Men’s golf won a tournament at Ohio State.
• Baseball topped Minnesota last weekend to win that series and took the first two games from Rutgers this weekend. However, they settled for a tie against Ball State in a game that was called in extra innings for darkness as the Cardinal’s Stadium in Muncie has no lights.
• Softball completed the sweep of Iowa last weekend and dominated hapless Butler during their midweek contest. However, a split at home so far this weekend against struggling Wisconsin puts a bad loss on the resume for a squad right on the NCAA tournament bubble.
• Men’s tennis fell to Illinois and Michigan State this week to close their season.
• Women’s tennis fell to Nebraska as their 2024 spring came to an end.
• Water polo lost to Stanford but came back with a win over San Jose State.
• Rowing won the Dale England Cup.
• Track and field competed at Texas and Indiana State.
• Volleyball will hold media day in Chicago this summer.
• Swimming and diving had several academic All-Americans.
