Early 2025 NBA mock draft tabs Kanaan Carlyle and Mackenzie Mgbako as first round picks
The 2024 NBA draft doesn’t wrap up until later today, but mock drafts for next June’s 2025 NBA draft are already surfacing.
The first notable mock draft to be published – via Adam Finkelstein and Travis Branham of CBSSports.com – includes two members of Indiana’s 2024-25 roster.
Stanford transfer Kanaan Carlyle, a sophomore, and Mackenzie Mgbako, last season’s Big Ten co-freshman of the year, were included in CBS’s early first-round projections.
“Kanaan Carlyle is a hot-and-cold shooter, but when he’s locked in — or better yet, when he’s playing more efficiently — then he profiles as an extremely versatile scoring threat,” CBS wrote of Carlyle in their projections.
Carlyle was penciled in as the No. 19 pick in the early mock draft. Mgbako, meanwhile, came in at No. 22.
“In high school, Mgbako’s shot-making from behind the arc was his best asset,” CBS wrote. “His shooting, period, was a strength. That did not translate as a freshman at Indiana, where he shot 39% from the field and 32% from three-point range. Can he improve?”
CBS listed several other Big Ten players among the potential first-round picks for next June.
Ace Bailey, an incoming freshman at Rutgers, came in at No. 2. Additionally, his teammate Dylan Harper came in at No. 4.
Oregon’s Kwame Evans Jr. is projected at No. 11, Ohio State’s Aaron Bradshaw at No. 20 and Oregon’s Jackson Shelstad at No. 24.
