Q & A: Class of 2025 IU target Trent Sisley talks Indiana Elite success, his improvement and his recruitment
Class of 2025 Heritage Hills and Indiana Elite forward Trent Sisley has been on IU’s recruiting radar for several years.
The 6-foot-7 Sisley is the No. 71 player in the rising senior class, according to the 247Composite. Sisley has already locked in official visits to Purdue (September 6-8), Indiana (September 20-22) and Notre Dame (September 27-29) and is also expected to visit Michigan State in October.
Inside the Hall recently spoke 1-on-1 with Sisley to get his thoughts on his play this spring with Indiana Elite on the adidas 3SSB circuit, his recruitment and much more.
Here’s our full Q & A with the IU recruiting target:
On the move to Indiana Elite this spring and the success the program has found this spring:
“I think the main thing is we play as a team. We’ve got a great group of guys. We all share the ball. The ball never really gets sticky. I think everybody feeds off of that.”
On whether there’s been any adjustment moving from the Nike EYBL circuit to the adidas 3SSB circuit:
“I think the circuits are pretty similar. I think our team is really good this year so I think they’re pretty similar.”
On the development of his game since the conclusion of the high school season:
“I think just my perimeter game and being able to stretch the floor and play as a guard. That’s kind of what I’m doing this spring with Indiana Elite. Just playing the three position. And also my defense, guarding the perimeter, stuff like that.”
On what he’s been focused on in terms of improvement defensively:
“Just guarding 1-on-1 on the perimeter, guarding point guards here and there. Guarding good shooting guards. Just being a better defensive player 1-on-1.”
On where schools envision him playing position-wise in college:
“Kind of what I’m doing this spring. Playing on the perimeter a lot. I think I can be on the wing in college and be able to knock down shots. And if I need to, use my versatility to go inside.”
On how he works to improve his perimeter shot:
“Just a lot of reps by yourself in the gym on a shooting machine. But also, not being afraid to shoot it in a game. Just being able to get good shots up in the game and obviously stuff translates when you can work out and then also be able to do it in a game.”
On how the recruiting process is going and if he’s enjoying the process:
“It’s not been too much. It’s kind of been mainly the same schools for a while. So it’s not been too much. Just building relationships with those schools and certain coaches. Obviously, it will come to an end this fall, hopefully, with my timeline. But it’s not been too much.”
Sisley confirmed the schools he hears from most frequently are Indiana, Purdue, Notre Dame, Iowa, Michigan State, and Michigan. He has an unofficial visit to Michigan on Friday, June 14.
On Purdue:
“I think just (Matt) Painter being involved so early and then obviously just consistently since then when they offered me (a scholarship). The success they’ve had was cool to watch this year. And then obviously how they’d use me there and how I’d fit there.”
On Indiana:
“Nothing has really changed from their perspective. Even with them going through the portal this spring, I was talking to them a lot. They still made time for me and still contacted me a lot. I’ve been in constant contact with them for a while. Coach (Mike) Woodson and coach (Brian) Walsh, those two really.”
On Notre Dame:
“Ever since Shrews (Micah Shrewsberry) got the job there, he’s been in contact with me and my family. And then coach (Ryan) Owens up there, too. Obviously they’ve got a good coach and good program building up there, too. I’ll be up there Thursday (today) with my high school for a team camp.”
On Michigan State:
“I think I have a good relationship with them. Obviously coach (Tom) Izzo is one of the best to do it. And then I like their culture and family atmosphere up there.”
On Iowa:
“I went on an official (visit) there last fall. Ever since they started recruiting me, nothing has really changed. I like it. Coach (Fran) McCaffery calls me every once in a while. Obviously a good program.”
On Michigan:
“They just like me and want to build a better relationship with me. We’re going on the unofficial Friday so it will be good to get up there in person and kind of see what they have to offer.”
On why he decided to take the Indiana visit with Braylon Mullins and Malachi Moreno:
“I think it was just as we started playing together this spring and into the summer now, we talked about it and we were able to set it up with the coaches. I think it’s pretty cool that we’re going to visit together.”
On the rise of Braylon and Malachi in the recent recruiting ratings update by Rivals:
“I think they’re both very deserving of that after the spring they’ve had. Braylon, I think he’s one of the best shooters in the country and I think he’s shown that all spring so I think that’s kind of the reason for his jump. And Malachi, he has size you can’t teach and also uses it. He’s very skilled. Playing with both of them this spring has been great.”
