OG Anunoby agrees to extension with Knicks, deal is largest ever for a former IU player
Former Indiana forward OG Anunoby has agreed to a five-year, $212.5 million contract extension with the New York Knicks, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.
The deal is the largest-ever NBA contract for a former IU basketball player.
Anunoby has already earned $61,680,792 over his first seven NBA seasons. The deal includes a player option and a trade kicker, per Wojnarowski.
Acquired last season from Toronto, Anunoby averaged 14.1 points, 4.4 rebounds and 1.5 assists with the Knicks. Over his NBA career, he’s averaged 12 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game.
Anunoby is widely considered one of the best defenders in the NBA.
An unheralded recruit out of Jefferson City, Missouri, Anunoby played two seasons for Indiana and was a key member of the program’s 2016 Big Ten champion and Sweet Sixteen team.
Anunoby was the No. 293 player in the class of 2015, according to the 247Composite.
Over two seasons for the Hoosiers, he averaged 6.8 points and 3.5 rebounds over 50 games. Anunoby shot 56.3 percent for Indiana and started 10 games.
He declared for the NBA draft in the spring of 2017 and was the No. 23 pick by Toronto.
