Video: 2014 La Lumiere guard Johnnie Vassar
2014 guard Johnnie Vassar of La Lumiere was an unofficial visitor at last Saturday’s Hoosier Hysteria and is among the top 50 players nationally in an early set of rankings published by CBSSports and MaxPreps. Vassar and La Lumiere tipped off the 2011-2012 season with three games last Sunday at the Vincennes Jamboree at Vincennes University.
Inside the Hall was there and we’ve compiled close to 90 seconds of highlights of the southpaw guard in the embedded media player below. (Note: Expand the video to full screen by using the arrows in the bottom right hand corner of the player.)
Read scouting notes from our first look at Vassar after the jump.
Scouting notes: Vassar is a strong and athletic point guard who may surprise opponents with his leaping ability. At just 5-foot-11, he is a capable above the rim finisher and isn’t afraid to go up against bigger opponents who challenge him at the rim. Vassar is also very quick off the dribble and can get to the rim and use his athleticism and strength to finish against contact or dish the ball off to open teammates.
He is also a willing and physical defender who will give opposing point guards fits with his pesky on the ball defense. Vassar is a respectable shooter from 3-point range, but could look to improve his overall consistency as a shooter. The sophomore floor general, who already holds an offer from Illinois, definitely left a good first impression on us and will undoubtedly be a player to track as he continues his high school career.
