I agree David but I can’t see him playing this year. Crean needs to get in a 9 man rotation and let them play. Last yr all the helter skelter substitions were harmful.

Do you realize that you look crazy since you’re talking to a series of deleted comments?

I guess all we’re allowed to say is “it’ll work itself out” and “nothing is Crean’s fault.”

I wouldn’t mind seeing his picture pop up every time Johnny Cash sings, “I Got Stripes” for the next 3 years.

Cannot speak to how he shot in practice, but find it hard to believe he was worse than those to whom TC gave court time. Every shooter I can ever remember or name has struggled occasionally with finding the range and/or getting a feel for the game at hand. I also remember a couple that Stauskas air mailed to the fans but Beilein let him keep playing and shooting. While I’d like to share your optimism regarding the guards’ shooting skills, it remains to be seen how well and how often they’ll light up the big board in AH. A world of difference between HS and college opponents.

Which would tie up his schollie for one more full year. Not likely IMO.

I think the problem was last year he was not shooting well in practice or in the games (I can remember at least 3 air balls). Nerves perhaps. Kid has to be able to score to play with th is group.

I understand exactly what you’re saying because I share the same frustration with the oversigning.
I don’t use the player’s name out of respect.

Hey, I can multi-task. I can have “a beef” with both you and Crean simultaneously, LOL. My beef with you is “technical”, you have used the words “discuss” and “talk” (which I have no issue with) but improperly apply those words to written content, naming individual player names, posted on a major Indiana Basketball website. My beef with Crean is more substantive, he is creating a climate of stress and confusion for his players and his team (and Indiana fans)! So let’s discuss Crean’s “oversign strategy”. We are aware of the “average” transfer number of about 2 per year. But you and I both know that “averages” do NOT apply to one specific case (the end of IU’s 2014-15 summer season). We both know of IU’s new guarantee of four full years for her athletic scholarships. We both know that unlike the last 2 years there is no “obvious” early NBA draft players on IU’s roster. So Crean is creating a needless “crisis” that does harm to his players and to his team right now. How can you demand total focus and commitment from these athletes when they can see less than a total commitment to some of them from their head coach? That is NOT a good leadership quality by the coach!

I get it, and I refrained from saying anything about Collin except that I want him to do well and graduate from IU; my point was to argue that it’s fair to discuss these sorts of things. I know Alex and ITH want to keep things a certain way and I respect that (which is why I refrained from any specific discussion), but Crean has made this a topic of discussion by the simple fact that at least two students on the current roster will not be here next year.

So if Collin were my kid, friend, family, etc., maybe my beef would be with Crean and not with some Purdue graduate who happens to post on an IU fan site.

You are a smart guy so I am sure that you are aware of my points: 1) Talk in a bar is different from a post on a major IU Basketball internet site; 2) What is the point of such posts on the internet? Does it benefit Collin-no, the team-no, the coaches-no, there is NO benefit to anyone; 3) If Collin were your kid, friend, family, etc. would you like seeing this sort of hurtful, trashy comment on the internet (no one can argue honestly that it does not hurt the kid)? The harmful personal nature of talking about individual players is what bothers me so much! Coach Crean’s strategy in over-signing is fair game.

Can I upvote this a thousand times? Sometimes the kid just needs to see the ball go through the hoop a few times and we never allowed him to. The thing I loved watching in his limited time was even when he stayed in the same places he was never still. Always on his toes and anticipating movement. He didn’t run to the ball but kind of moved with it if ya get what I’m saying.

I understand the reasoning behind it and I abide by it, but the more we oversign, the more it seems that it’s an issue that should be addressed (“who goes at the end of the season”).

1) I want Collin to do well.
2) I want Collin to graduate from IU.
3) We are oversigned by a minimum of 2 players — which will probably end up being 3 or 4.
4) We’ve had multiple transfers nearly every year, so it’s only natural that folks think and, heaven forbid, talk about such things.

The one thing that by “mutual, gentlemanly consent” we rarely speculate on is the name of a player who might transfer. 🙂

There were more than a couple replies which maintaining that CH was NOT a very good shooter, wasn’t “ready”, didn’t asset himself, etc. However, this article clearly states, “Brought in by Indiana coach Tom Crean to be a shooter on a team that desperately needed them…”, and yet less-talented players who are no longer roster players continued to get minutes instead of Collin. Does no good to rehash decisions which were or were not made last season. Just a couple comments going forward: 1) CH might have been able to impact the outcome of a few/lot of last year’s games, but it’s hard to light up a scoreboard when you’re sitting on the bench. 2) If you fail to use a player with a particular skill set, expect questions to be raised. 3) Try to learn something useful from the situation and perhaps avoid a repeat performance with another player. 4) I truly hope he stays and becomes the best player he can be. If that happens wearing stripes…great!

Everything is speculation. We speculate on recruits, players, how our season will end up. That’s the fun in the debate. No one is saying we don’t want Collin to succeed at IU. But with his not playing much last year and the injury on top of it, combined with our scholarship situation, it might best for both if a transfer occurred. But let’s see what happens when Collin gets back out on the floor. I’m rooting for him.

It is NOT appropriate for any of us to speculate on transfers at this point of the season! Let the season play out! I personally do not approve of these speculations even in April and May. These are “our” kids. Support them!

Good luck Collin! I remember him at Cathedral being the leader, the best scoring option, the guy who grabbed the key rebounds, the best player on very good teams. I hope he succeeds!
