Just less of a showboat.

That’s for sure. I didn’t mean that I expected him to be exactly like the Round Mound of Rebound, just that if he could play with that kind of edge and intensity it would go a long way for him, and for IU.

I don’t think ” buy ” is a word that is in their personal vocabulary.

Sir Charles was a truly unique athlete! Not another one around.

Many kids who believe that they are NBA ready on the KY roster will average 10 minutes or less on the floor this year. As Lee found out last season, that won’t justify a first round draft position. So they will have to attend classes in the spring semester and NOT buy that car!

Playing Devin at the #4 is where he excels. Playing him at the #5 is a disservice to Devin and to the team. We have two players to play the #5: Hanner and Jeremiah! Now that is not to say that for some minutes, in some games, IU may go with no #5 on the floor, playing a #4 and 4 other guards/wings.

He is good. He deserves 20 minutes +/game on the floor. He should have played more minutes last season, but that is water under the bridge.

I think he can contribute in other ways but this team doesn’t need for him to be a top-level scorer or a distributor/ball handler. As the article points out, and as Davis clearly knows, Davis’ value comes from his toughness and strength on the glass. I think a successful season for him will include:
-Consistent rebounding.
-Improvement in his ability to defend without fouling. Fouls were a problem for him last season but they didn’t appear to be in Canada…let’s hope that issue has been solved.
-6-8 very efficient points per game.

I love his game and I think he takes a big step forward this season.

Just looking at this year’s roster, gotta believe that covering 40 minutes at the five is Hanner and Devin splitting the time with a few minutes help from the new recruits. And Troy is this year’s stretch four, taking most of those minutes.

Not claiming I’m a huge fan of this ‘unorthodox’ line-up, but it looks like the best way for this team to have a chance to win most games. Reminds me of one of the better mid-majors: not big enough to be consistent over an entire season or tournament, but a team that no one wants to play in a single game elimination.

I think you are right. This is a team that could easily go undefeated. Scary as all get out! Hate it!

He’ll no doubt get a chance to look the beast in the eye when IU plays UL in the Jimmy V classic.

Love that he is willing to play whatever position the team needs… (pretty sure he wasn’t told on his official visit: “Devin we envision you as our starting power foward, and could even see you spelling the 5 spot in a few years”) …..on a side note, I just watched the last of Kentucky’s games in the Bahamas, and I am going to go out on a limb and say they will lose less than 3 games, and that an undefeated season is not out of the question. They do play Kansas, Carolina, Lousiville, and UCLA in the pre-conference, but they were subbing out 5 guys at a time like hockey lines, and they were getting better! If Cal has the guts to do that in the regular season, it will be a marvel to see, and if they can execute it, their opponents have no chance. I’ve seen so many great teams get knocked out because of foul trouble or injury to their star, that can’t happen to these guys.

Montrezl is a beast.

That would be exactly what IU needs from him this season…undersized (short, anyway) PF crashing the glass and causing havoc in the open court.
