There really would be no difference between what was done this year and what would happen if they went to divisions in that regard. We would just always know the schedule. OSU would ALWAYS play UM twice. IU would ALWAYS play PU twice. I like that, because I believe it upholds the traditional rivalries, while helping to build new ones. As you mentioned, OSU and PSU have a budding rivalry that didn’t take too terribly long to grow.

I understand your point regarding OSU in with Maryland and Rutgers, but I don’t see another way to do it, honestly. Truthfully, I’d rather IU be in the East with their rivals like UM, MSU and OSU. In the West, we’d get PU and Illinois, which many of us believe are our two biggest rivals, but we really don’t have much of a rivalry with any of the other schools out West either.

I agree on Illinois too. With campus proximity to one another and the being a border state I feel they are number two. Up north they will say Meeeeeshigan though for our number 2.

They were slightly better. Factor in getting used to a higher level of competition, and a team full of other players who could handle the ball and did on a regular basis, and there is certainly evidence that he has that potential to get high assists.

He had those his freshman year. What was his assists % then?

Got to have someone capable of knocking in shots, find passing lanes, or seal off a defender in order to get assists.

Right?! They understand enough to protect a rivalry game in football, so why don’t they get it in basketball? It has nothing to do with the quality of PU or IU. The fans want to see that game twice a season regardless.

Personally, I’d like to always have PU and Illinois on the schedule twice. I don’t know if anyone else agrees with me, but I have always felt that Illinois was our second biggest rivalry game. That matchup hasn’t had the luster it used to have, but back in the 80s and 90s…WOW! That was always a great game.

However, I like it a LOT better than the unbalanced schedule, and starting next year it will be much worse than ever. It drives me nuts.

I didn’t think about it that way. That’s a really good idea.

Ten teams. Home and home for everyone. 18 games. Not a bad idea. 🙂 It will never happen, though.

I did think about Nebraska when I typed that, and you’re right. Nebraska was all in on basketball though, with the building of the new arena and the hiring of a great up and coming coach.

We’ll see if Rutgers is up to the challenge.

IU wins out (unlikely) and wins one game in the B-10 post season..maybe..but my gut is IU would have to win the tourney to be invited to the Dance.

There is only two things that are preventing Yogi from going out this year. First is the prospect of this years draft, and the second is the turnovers he commits. His shooting is not the issue at all, his shot selection is not the problem either. Both would certainly be understood by NBA scouts. They just would not like the passes that he attempts from time to time.

I wouldn’t think that it would take Rutgers that long to build a strong team. They are in rather fertile recruiting ground, the talent will be able to stay local and be seen via the Big Ten Network, and they can stay home and play against an elite conference. All it will take is the right coach to sell that opportunity and they can take off.
