The players didnt play and the coaching staff for damn sure didnt coach. Why in the world did we even attempt to start Yogi and Hulls in the game together. And even if you try it….it then took 12 turnovers and an 18 point first half deficit to make you decide to take him out. This game was about the Hoosiers being overmatched at more than the guard position. Syracuse had us at the coaching spot also. Until Coach Crean can learn to be able to make big adjustments during a game Indiana will not be hanging any NCAA banners.

Crean should look in the mirror and understand he cost his team the game.

Agree with you. People have to remember we have Crean because the program was in total disarray and coaches who have achieved we scared to take on the challenge.
Crean and the coaching staff need to develop as much as the players. I beleive Crean will pull in the talent, he’s very good at that, I hope he will also be tough enough to get a better coaching staff if need be.
Firing Tom Crean isn’t the solution, changes in the assistants may be.

It’s extremely disappointing to end things so soon, but IU basketball is back and it will be a force to be feared thanks to the efforts of this team. I’m so proud of the accomplishments this year and I’ll never forget it. Everyone is entitled to a loss or a bad game. It’s just that the stakes are so high at this point that one misstep costs you everything.

I wear my cream and crimson with pride and look forward to many more great years ahead. Banner 6 is on the horizon…

Someone failed to mention to them there is a reason the Hoosiers were in the sweet 16.

The coaching staff has to accept complete responsibility for this loss, the team looked completely lost for most of the game. Who changes a team style of play in the tourney? Even Boeheim was astonished at the amount of talk IU coaching staff was doing about the Syracuse zone. Those poor guys must have felt like they were going to play the Lakers instead of Syracuse!!!
Crean has a lot to learn about game coaching. This team has not played well for the last month and the win over Temple was as much about luck as talent. Should never have been that close.
All I can say is those kids did not deserve that kind of coaching performance.

Great point about changing the line ups. I’d make the same point on sub schedules. Sometimes we needed to change things up but we kept going back to the same formula

Watford will probably have a few years in the pros, and I’d expect to see Jordy coaching.

Totally agree…I was begging coach Crean to take Yogi out of the game; I am totally looking forward to his years ahead but the matchups dictated that WS and RA had to be on the floor more…oh well

I thought Zeller was good enough inside but he seemed bothered by athletic big men; I expected him to move outside and shoot the jumper to draw out the competition; but he continually tried to take it inside. I noticed that balance and footwork seemed to be troublesome for our big men. Great season for a very good…great team….go Hoosiers!

IU was not overmatched with athletes but overmatched psychologically and approach.

Crean and Co., gets all the credit in taking the program to this point from the bottom of the bottom. But there is much more expected and more to be done.

Crean has to develop more as a tactical coach. This goes back to preparation, and coaching far more complex than now. This team was unable to adjust much in the game.

Example, Dan Dakich was not a starter but started against UNC back in `84, IU’s best lineup against this team was Sheehey on the floor with Oladipo, Watford, and Zeller, not the two small guards. In fact Abell seemed to be better matched up with Triche than the two points.

That is a gutsy and bold move and would have thrown Syracuse for a loop in that they are not tactical sufficient as well.

Looking for more from Crean now.,

Zeller is clearly in a state of shock. The Hulls video on the other post is just painful. I really hope Hulls, Elston, and Watford are able to find something replace basketball in their lives.

You have helped get started in being what many of us know as INDIANA basketball. Coach Crean you have an excellent foundation but we need much stronger & talented big men inside to compete at final four level with te likes of Duke, Kentucky, Kansas, and the like – need some top ten high school All Americans. I can’t wait until next year Go Hoosiers!
