Video: Yogi Ferrell reacts to sudden death win
It’s not often that a basketball game ends in a sudden death scenario.
But last night’s Junior-Senior All-Star in Kokomo did just that after D’Vauntes Smith-Rivera hit a 30-footer at the buzzer to tie the game at 102.
After Smith-Rivera hit the buzzer beater, game officials decided on a 1-minute overtime. The juniors won the tip, held the ball for 50 seconds and Smith-Rivera was fouled.
But the junior guard, who is headed to Oak Hill Academy in the fall, missed both free throws and time expired with the score still knotted at 102.
The second overtime was declared “sudden death” and Yogi Ferrell hit an off-balance baseline jumper to lift the Juniors to a 104-102 win.
Here’s what the Indiana-bound point guard, who finished with 16 points, five assists, four rebounds, two steals and two blocks had to say afterward:
Notable final stats: Cody Zeller (25 points, 21 rebounds, four blocks); Austin Etherington (two points, two assists and six rebounds), Gary Harris (15 points), Hanner Perea (six points, 15 rebounds), Ron Patterson (eight points).
