From what I am seeing it has to make sense. The kid needs time and we’ll let him have it.

I have been holding my tongue about Etherington. I think a lot of people are expecting too much. IMO Etherington is one of the glue guys that play sparse minutes the first couple years. He gets stronger. He gets better. He becomes a solid  contributor by the end of his 3rd and into his fourth year. He will be a good player. His attitude is right for the team, and his work ethic will get him to where he is not right now. Fortunately, we are starting to have a team that can adequately allow players to develop instead of desperately needing to just put a team on the floor.

I hope this makes a little sense.

I would have loved to see him in an IU uniform. But with the success Calipari has had with PG’s and where they have been going in he draft. I don’t fault Teague at all, it was a good opportunity and if history repeats itself, he could go top 5 in the draft. I wish him luck, just not against IU. Shut that kid down Remy.

Teague is far far far from a thug. The kid is one of the mild mannered kids around. Yes he does play with an edge on the court but the ‘thug’ label doesn’t fit at all. He is the perfect player for Cal and will excel at KY….but IU could give them a run next year.

Thug?? He just wants to win…you got to admit he plays hard…I sat close at the game at Bellermine…Whitehead…Dawson…Teague…Nic Moore…Ryan Taylor….A Hickey and Fant was talking talking trash…Too much trash for a regular game but its fine for a all star game…I been taking a lot of heat from LVille and UK fans about Austin E’s game…I just dont think he fits the All Star games style but should be fine at IU

He was a complete ball hog and he appeared to have an all me thug mentality. Even though he hit the last shot to win it, the Indiana kids would have probably done alot better had that guy not even played.

Remy Abell
+ Remy impressed me with his willingness to ‘just go play’. He guarded Teague, D.Davis, and Nic Moore. He just plays without all the extras.
+ Remy can get to the basket and is able to take contact and finish
+ Offensively, Remy moves the ball, it doesn’t hang out in his hands long with either a pass or looking to make something happen off the dribble.  He can shoot the ball from the perimeter pretty good.
+ You will like Remy because he plays hard, seems very coachable, and plays on both ends of the floor. Similar to the 2010 frosh.

Cody Zeller
+ Don’t let the smooth taste fool ya…. The kid has some grit and fire, and plays tough basketball. Would not shock me if he is the frosh of the year in the Big Ten.
+ During one stretch during the game Cody rebounding, lead a fast break, blocked a shot and was very involved in the momentum shift for the Indiana All Stars.

Austin Etherington
+ My panic is done. I think Austin is a role player that picks his spots. He won’t wow, but  you want him on your team because he plays tough. Helluva block of a dunk last night and went strong to the basket.

+ He will have to adjust to playing with other talent and not being the go to guy, that seemed to be the biggest issue last night. He tends to take a back seat when he doesn’t have too.

I repeat what I said earlier, though—next year is going to be ugly!  The juniors took a game from these guys, whereas the Kentucky juniors to throttled.

Agreed; his line in the recent box scores have left me puzzled.  I’m still hoping we can get 5-10 minutes a game from AE — some good D and a pair of 3s.

The kid has a good attitude, so I hope he’ll turn things around once he gets to Btown.

As someone who’s coached baseball and basketball for years at various levels . . . YOU HAVE TO HAVE ATHLETIC ABILITY TO EFFECTIVELY RUN ANY SYSTEM!!!

I’m kind of tired of hearing the “he just runs CTC’s system” excuse!  I watched a ton of Marquette games over the years (especially when Dominick James was there) and the system isn’t the problem.  James and other Marquette guards constantly broke down defenders and got to the basket and into the lane.

The problem with the system right now is we don’t have a single guard on the team that could consistently dribble around me!  I’ve questioned many other things (as is my nature) about CTC’s substitution patterns, terrible inbound play calling, and more) but I refuse to believe that a guy would have gotten past coaching 6th grade ball if his system was designed to have a PG beat the ball into the court until there was five seconds left on the shot clock then drive with his head down and force a shot or turn it over!

I can promise you that it’s not designed like that and we just don’t have the horses to run it right now.  If you want to argue that CTC should have changed systems to fit his players until he got the players he needed then I’ll back that argument all day!  I’m not sold on the “we’re gonna run it so we know it” theory because those guys will be gone or benched when we do have the players to run it, but I KNOW that the reason the offense didn’t work the past couple seasons was because we didn’t have the right players to fit the system.

Stop blindly defending VJ3 before the season even starts.  I hope he is used in an appropriate role because Remy or someone else can run the system the right way but it is obvious that VJ doesn’t have the skills to play the point in college in pretty much any system!

So, in summary, if you want to argue that VJ has been improperly used, or the system should have been ditched until we got the right players, then okay.  But if you want to argue the system is designed to look like VJ runs it, then keep the argument to yourself because you’re nuts!

Still love ya though Stoni!  You’re a diehard IU fan and we can agree to disagree as long as that’s the case!

I’d add that you’d expect these high school kids to be “streaky”.  Consistency comes with time and AE still has the potential to pull it out.  IT’s WAY TOO EARLY to project his playing time and contribution imo.
