Building a new arena would be a mistake that would be looked at with the same regret that Detroit feels after tearing down Tiger Stadium, and New York feels for renovating Yankee Stadium in the 70’s. Assembly Hall is a Hoosier treasure, it’s part of our heritage as Indiana supporters and we have to protect it from those who want to build a new arena for the sake of making more money.

I might give it up to Allen Fieldhouse, but that’s it.

Coach Knight never stopped a game for LOUD, just for profanity. Guess he was the only one supposed to swear in Assembly Hall.

Without question. Nationally? With a biased heart I say we are at the very least tied for nations best homecourt.

Yes, the acoustics are definitely a factor.

The upper level hangs out over the lower level, blocking the sound from going up to the ceiling. The concrete walls on the end zones also bounce the sound right back to the floor. Just think how loud it would be if they had not hung those sound dampening banners on each end zone. I bet Knight had that in mind, because he was SOOOOO concerned with visiting teams getting upset!

The IU logo would be better.

Crean came to Indiana, and from Day one he started selling what you just stated. That has made the enviroment in Assembly Hall even harder to play in. Long way away from the days Knight would stop a game in AH for crowd control Ey?

This is my favorite quote in the article. The way he describes it, it sounds like its scary to play there. There is no better atmosphere in basketball anywhere.

I agree. I think the design has a lot to do with it. The way it is designed, the sound has no choice but to travel right down to the court. Not sure if this is what they were aiming for when it was designed, but it works!
