Indiana forward Race Thompson enters the transfer portal
Indiana junior forward Race Thompson has entered the transfer portal, according to a report by Travis Branham. Three Indiana players have entered the portal in the last 48 hours.
Thompson started all 27 games for the Hoosiers this season, averaging 9.1 points, 6.2 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game. His best game came against Providence in the Maui Invitational when he scored a career-high 22 points and grabbed 13 rebounds.
Thompson was a reliable presence in the post along with Trayce Jackson-Davis and was asked to play significant minutes (28 per game) as a result of Indiana’s limited frontcourt rotation. Thompson underwent facial surgery late in the season after taking a hit to the face but played through the injury.
Thompson dealt with injuries in his first two seasons with the Hoosiers. In his redshirt freshman year, he was hampered by a groin injury. Then in his sophomore year, Thompson was sidelined after suffering a concussion.
Four Hoosiers have entered the transfer portal in the last two weeks as Indiana’s coaching search continues. Last week Al Durham put his name in the portal. Yesterday, it was sophomore Armaan Franklin and earlier this morning, UT-Martin graduate transfer Parker Stewart added to the list.
As a high school recruit, Thompson held offers from Minnesota, Michigan, Baylor, Arizona State, Marquette and Kansas State, among others before choosing Indiana.
Thompson was Archie Miller’s first commitment when he took over at Indiana.
