TBT bracket announced: Assembly Ball will play Valparaiso alumni team, the Cru
The 64-team bracket for this year’s TBT was announced Wednesday morning and Assembly Ball has its opponent for the opening round.
IU’s TBT alumni team will play the Valparaiso alumni team, the Cru, on Friday, July 19 at 8 p.m. ET at Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis on BTN.
Assembly Ball, the No. 1 seed in the Butler Regional, is comprised primarily of former IU players and is the first IU alumni team to ever play in the event. This will be the 11th year of the TBT.
The roster includes Yogi Ferrell, Juwan Morgan, Troy Williams, Jordan Hulls, Miller Kopp, and Devonte Green. Hulls is both a player and a coach.
Race Thompson is also listed on the roster, but his status is unknown. Thompson spent most of last season in Bloomington rehabbing from an injury. We’re expected to learn more about Thompson’s availability for TBT in the coming weeks.
Also included on the roster are Julian Gamble, Keith Hornsby, Kristian Doolittle and Rion Brown.
Gamble, a 6-foot-10 center, played at the University of Miami and last played for Scafati Basket in Italy. Hornsby, a 6-foot-4 guard from LSU, last played for Surne Bilbao in Spain.
Doolittle, a 6-foot-7 wing, played at Oklahoma and his last professional team was Bayamon Vaqueros in Puerto Rico. Brown, a 6-foot-6 wing, played for Miami and last played professionally for ADA Blois in France.
The team’s official roster lists Adam Ross as the head coach and Isaac Green as an assistant coach. Ross coached former Hoosier Will Sheehey at Sagemont High School in Florida. Green is a video and player development analyst for IU basketball.
TBT is a winner-take-all, $1 million event that begins in July and concludes in early August in Philadelphia. It will feature 27 nationally televised games, including three on FOX, 16 on FS1, eight on FS2 and two on Big Ten Network.
The other 34 games will be available to stream free here.
